Quick Tips on What to Wear

So if you’ve ever worked with me before, you know I send all my clients a little welcome packet with FAQ’s, ideas of what to wear, and locations. In that packet I go into WAY more detail of what to wear, so here are some really quick tips to help you decide what to wear. Ready? Here they are!

Tip 1: Pick 2-3 Colors to Wear

Pick colors you like to wear, that you love together, and that you’ll love to hang up in your house! If too much color scares you or you’re not a fan of tons of color, neutrals are ALWAYS a really good option. They photograph well, and they’re timeless. I will always recommend a dress and hair down for mom and daughters-it adds so much to your photos!

Tip 2: Have Someone Be the “Surprise”

Now that you’ve picked your colors, add a pop of bright color, a different pattern, or a different texture. This can be incorporated in jewelry, headbands, jackets, vests, or even shirts and pants.

Tip 3: Alternate the size of your patterns

If you want to incorporate pattern, it’s totally doable. The main thing is to alternate the sizes! So if you have a dress with small florals, make sure dad’s stripes are thicker. Or if you have two daughters wearing floral patterns, make sure one is smaller than the other. The only absolute no-no’s are no small stripes or small plaid-they photograph wavy and it is NOT pretty!

Tip 4: Think About the Where and the Feels

Ok, this one definitely needs explaining. When planning what to wear you need to take into account where your photos are getting taken, and what kind of impression or feeling you would like to have when looking at those gorgeous pictures that will hang up in your house. Want it to feel casual? Just another day playing with the kids, caught in the moment? Wear (nice and coordinating) everyday clothing. Want a more romantic feel? Think luscious fields with a long flowy dress and button-up shirts (this one gets my vote everytime!). Want fun colorful murals in the background? White and black clothing would really contrast and look great! These sessions are really for YOU so you can make them look and feel however you want! Totally have fun with it!
