How to Prepare for Your Session
This may seem like a silly thing to post, but I want every one of my clients to have the best experience possible when taking photos with me. So here are some tips on how to prepare for a session with me!
1. Remember that it’s completely natural to feel a little awkward in front of the camera.
The only people that don’t feel awkward are the people that are in front of the camera all the time. Or if you are super confident and just know you’ll look awesome (does anyone really feel that way?). I will be there to help you feel more natural! I’ll be giving you prompts and guiding you into poses to help you focus on something besides my camera.
2. Get those outfits prepped!
Make sure you love what you and your spouse/family are wearing! The best way to get candid photos is to feel as comfortable as you can. If you’re wearing something super fashionable but it makes you feel like your belly’s sticking out or your butt looks big or your arms look big, PICK SOMETHING ELSE. You’re going to feel so much better and more confident and that will translate well into some awesome photos. And if you have super messy kids or a drooling baby? Wait until you get to your location before putting that final layer on, or bring a bib so that cute baby doesn’t ruin their perfect outfit you painstakingly picked out. 3. Be prepared to move, play with your kids (or spouse), and play games!
I like to try and get the truest impression of YOU and your family in our session together. A lot of times I’ll bring that out by playing games, prompting you in some sort of movement, or just playing with your kids or your spouse. It makes the session fun, and the end result is fantastic.
4. DON’T STRESS
Your husband doesn’t feel like smiling? No worries. Your kids need a break? Let’s do it. Kids aren’t following my prompts? That’s great! They’re being them! YOU need a break? Let’s take five! Family pictures, portraits, and couple sessions do NOT need to be stressful. We’ll take our time, have some fun, and take breaks or do something different when we need to.
That’s it! That’s all you’ve got to do. Honestly, I think the hardest part is getting outfits together! Besides that, you just have to show up on time and then me do all the hard stuff. We got this!
