Padilla Family Newborn Session | Lifestyle Newborn Photos

Another newborn session! I have been getting more and more of these, and I have to say I love them. The feeling is different than a regular family session. They’re definitely more challenging for me; having to figure out lighting in an unfamiliar place and deciding which elements of their home to include can be hard on the fly. But being invited into someone’s home and having them trust you in their space to capture their family is such a special privilege and feeling. And, of course, seeing those new little babies is so fun too.

This family was so fun to work with. Kristin had warned me before the shoot that her husband didn’t like having to smile for pictures, and that was totally fine with me! He did an awesome job, and was super comfortable just being himself with the baby. And their son was the cutest with his baby brother.

Some of my favorite photos from this session are from when we were technically taking a break. The baby needed to eat and older brother needed a snack so everyone headed to the kitchen. One thing I’ve learned from all my family sessions is to be observant and to look for little everyday moments. So while mom was feeding baby and dad was helping brother with a snack, I just took a step back and captured this everyday scene. I’m sure they didn’t think this was anything special to capture, but I think there’s such beauty and simplicity in everyday moments like these.

At the end of the session, the older brother totally made my day. He handed me this little card he had made me while I was taking pictures of just mom and baby where he told me thanks for taking pictures for them and that I was the best photographer in the world. Now I know where to go when I need a little self-confidence boost.

Here’s some of their session!
