Ottesen Family Newborn Session | In-home Photos

Babies are so magical. They’re so freaking cute, everything they do also turns into cuteness. Of course, it’s a lot easier for me to say this when the newborn isn’t my own! I can just soak up all the adorable-ness and then hand them back to the parent when they start to get fussy, ha! And it’s amazing how I always forget how small they are until I see another newborn. They are so small! And their cute little legs are still bent in to their stomachs so they look even smaller.

I was so excited when my friend asked me to take photos for her a couple months before she was even due. So I had literally been looking forward to this shoot for months you guys! In-home sessions are a whole different ballgame than the usual style of family portraits that I love. Lighting is different, framing and angles have to be different, and all of this has to be figured out on the spot (unless I’ve been in their house before). It also has such a special feel to it. To literally be invited into someone’s personal space to document their family is just so special, and I feel so privileged to be able to do it.

Hannah is probably one of the happiest people I know. When I think of her, it’s always with a smile on her face. She is always full of energy and laughing so she is super fun and uplifting to be around. And let me tell you, she is taking the newborn phase like a champ. I am totally a mess during the newborn phase, but she was totally cool and collected and went with the flow the whole time I was there. I guess she’s one of those lucky people that can survive and still be happy with little to no sleep (which I am definitely NOT one of those people). Casey was also super cute with the baby, he had no fear or hesitancy like some new dads do. I love to see that!

This is such a sweet family, here are some of the photos from their shoot!
