Rachelle's Outdoor Headshot Session

Rachelle contacted me about doing some professional headshots for her, and I was excited since I hadn’t done a session of just headshots before. It also made me feel really good because she was willing to drive out from Taos to do a session with me.

We decided to do her session at Alameda Open Space since it has a lot of options when it comes to different areas and looks. We focused on an area with lots of trees, the bridge, and an area by an open field.

This session was definitely different than anything I’ve done. My style is usually more candid and free, which are complete opposites of what you want for professional headshots. I had to completely change the way I think and approach taking someone’s portraits. I had to think more about head placement and hand placement than I usually do. My norm is to get people comfortable and let them do movements and poses that feel more natural to them. That was not the case here! But it was fun to try and do something different and challenge myself to still do a good job in a style that doesn’t come naturally to me.

It was fun to talk to and get to know Rachelle during our session. She started working as a business consultant, has a lot of animals, and loves to rock climb. I loved the fact that when I asked her to do a fake laugh she immediately started laughing for real. I love people who laugh easily! I’m sure she’s going to kill it as a business consultant!
